Step-by-step guide — Add a product to a Menu List (SambaPOS)

Prerequisites

  • The product has already been created in Manage > Products > Product List (with at least one portion/price).

  • You have administrative access to SambaPOS (Manage permissions).

  • Know which Menu Category you want to add the product to (e.g., Heineken → Beer).

STEP 1 — Open Menu List

  1. From the Navigation screen click Manage.

  2. Go to Products > Menu List (or Manage > Products > Menu List depending on your layout).

  3. The Menu List page shows existing menu categories and assigned products.

STEP 2 — Select the Menu Category

  1. From the Menu List, find and click the menu category you want to add the product to (for example: Beer, Champagne, Soft Drinks, Local Dish, Snacks, Noodle and Pasta, Nigerian Starters.).

  2. If the category does not exist, create it first:

    • See how to add product.

STEP 3 — Add Product to the Category

  1. With the chosen category open, click Add Product (or Add Item) inside that category.

  2. In the Add Product dialog:

    • Start typing the Product Name — SambaPOS will suggest existing products.

    • Select the product from the suggestions (this links an existing product record to the menu).

    • Choose the Portion to use on the menu (e.g., Normal, Large).

    • Optionally set a Menu Price (override product price for this menu item if needed).

    • Optionally set Printer/Tag routing or other printing settings for that menu item.

  3. Click Save or Add to confirm.

STEP 4 — Arrange Order (Optional)

  1. If you want the item to appear in a specific order on the POS screen, use the Sort or Move Up / Move Down controls on the Menu List page.

  2. Save the new order.

STEP 5 — Verify on POS Terminal

  1. Open a POS terminal or the SambaPOS interface used by staff.

  2. Navigate to the Menu Category where you added the product.

  3. Confirm the product and selected portion appear and that the price is correct.

  4. Run a test transaction (add to ticket and close) if necessary to ensure printing/routing behaves as expected.

Tips & Common Checks

  • If the product doesn’t show on the POS: ensure the terminal is connected to the same database and has refreshed the menu.

  • If printing or routing fails: check the product’s Tag and the category printer mapping.

  • For barcode sales: ensure the product has its Barcode set in Product List.

  • Want the menu price different from product price? Set the Menu Price when adding the product to the menu category — this overrides the base product price only for that menu item.

Example (quick)

  2. Click DrinksAdd Product
